Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that the organizing committee invites you to attend the second international workshop dedicated to the bacterial pathogens Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis (HinMax2011). This workshop is to take place on the 10th and 11th of August 2011, in the sunny climate of Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles. The workshop will once again provide an excellent opportunity for scientists to exchange ideas, establish collaborations, and present the results of their research with respect to these significant and emerging bacterial pathogens. The conference will consist of an initial plenary session (including invited speakers) on the 10th, followed by sessions whose main topics will include; vaccines and immune response, virulence mechanisms, physiology and metabolism, genomics and proteomics, and clinical infection / antibiotic resistance. Both oral and poster presentations will be on offer.

Curaçao is an island lying off of the east coast of South America that is considered to be part of the West Indies. In August, the average high temperature is approximately 32ºC (90ºF), with trade winds providing cool air during the day and warm air during the night. Curaçao is well-known for its coral reefs and excellent scuba-diving opportunities, with the beaches on the south side containing many popular diving spots. Away from the conference, you could also explore the Hato caves, hike in the Christoffel national park, go shopping in the capital city of Willemstad (a UNESCO world heritage site), or simply relax on one of the many world-class beaches.

We look forward to welcoming new members to the HinMax community, as well as re-establishing contacts between existing HinMax colleagues, on the 10th and 11th of August 2011, for what promises to be a repeat of the extremely successful HinMax2008 conference.

On behalf of the organizing committee,

John P. Hays
